The Sun

All colors come from the sun. And it does not have
Any particular color, for it contains them all.
And the whole Earth is like a poem
While the sun above represents the artist.

Whoever wants to paint the variegated world
Let him never look straight up at the sun
Or he will lose the memory of things he has seen.
Only burning tears will stay in his eyes.

Let him kneel down, lower his face to the grass,
And look at light reflected by the ground.
There he will find everything we have lost:
The stars and the roses, the dusks and the dawns.

Czeslaw Milosz, Warsaw, 1943

"The tomb is not a blind alley; it is a thoroughfare. It closes on the twilight. It opens on the dawn." ******* (Victor Hugo)

Post Beautiful
Thanks for posting this, Kristin.
Seems to fit into my thoughts these past few days.

The sky and sun have had a monumental impact on me, especially since moving here.
I found that when I get to a certain level of anxiousness, I tend to dissociate myself, that is I feel like I am not part of my body, like I am an observer, just watching a movie. Everything seems like a dream.
The cause of this I'm not sure of, maybe my past drug usage, who knows?
But, it really helped me realize that I couldn't imagine the world or my physical self to be any other way.
It also reinforced my need to focus on the Earth and my inner life. This is home.
No longer would I need to search the skies for UFO's for evidence of a higher power.
The alien is me.
I once had a dream where David Byrne, singer for the Talking Heads, sang to me, "You'll never find something more Martian than yourself."
Anyway, this depersonalization often would make me feel like I could float off the Earth at any moment, especially when I was outside during the day and the Sun was bright and beating heavily on me. It happens less frequently now, with the last time being a few days ago, when I really had to stand my ground in face of my family situation.
Later that day, I was reading, and the Sun was setting with its light shining on me. I suddenly shifted perspectives and saw the Sun not just as a mere exploding ball of fire, but in a new light, as the true source of everything I know and love. Heaven opens its gates to me came to mind.

It's funny how, at least for me, we're taught to almost laugh at so-called "primitive" societies who praised the Sun as a god.
Yet for me, today I had the thought that I cannot accept Jesus, Son of God, as my savior... but I can concede that if it were not for stars, the Sun being the representative of our lovely planet, dying for the sake of the birth of new stars and ultimately human life, I would not be so lucky as to have this awe-inspiring experience that is existence.
So, I accept the Sun as my savior.

Happy Vernal Equinox to all and to all a prosperous growing season,

Birth is the death of the life we have known; death is the birth of the life we have yet to live. (Marion Woodman)
